Christmas Toy & Clothing Drive

One Nation Walking Together Christmas Toy & Clothing Drive

For several years, Pikes Peak MCC has helped One Nation Walking Together in a number of ways. One Nation serves Native American communities on reservations in seven Western states, including the Pine Ridge and Rosebud communities in southwestern South Dakota.

One Nation is having a Christmas Toy & Clothing Drive for children and teens. The wish lists are printed on the next page. Please do not wrap the gifts you donate; and please, no toy weapons. We are also collecting food items for this Christmas drive. They ask that we not donate chocolates and that we limit the number of sugary items. Our Christmas collection begins now and ends on Sunday, December 10. The sooner the better though, because at that late date, One Nation will not have time to deliver them to reservations far from Colorado Springs but only to families in our urban region.

Also, they have trusted folks who stop through Colorado Springs on their way home to their reservations. One Nation volunteers load their pick-up trucks with gifts and food that they deliver via the rest of their journey. Most years, a pastor from a reservation up north makes a trip to One Nation for that very purpose. We don’t want to miss those opportunities to get the needed items to them before Christmas. Please bring food, toy, and clothing donations to church and place them in the box in the social hall as soon as you are able.

The food that our church donates to One Nation through the year goes into the organization’s Food Room. When a community requests food, it is loaded onto an over-the-road 53′ semi-truck/trailer and delivered to that community. One Nation uses the “first in, first out” plan, so the items that are collected in our food drives for them may not be delivered to the communities until after the items that have more immediate “use by” dates have been delivered.

Likewise, the One Nation School Supply Drive officially runs only until the end of August; however, they often receive requests from Native communities for school supplies at other times during the school year, especially for delivery after the December school break.

Trudy is our point person for One Nation Walking Together. You may email her with questions at duo@ppmcc.org. Thank you for your generosity!
